Hello everyone! We have Alexandria back on the blog with an amazing layout to show us. We love how she was inspired by that patterns on the paper and added her own twist on her favorite pattern in the collection! Her she is!
In my last post, I talked about my obsession with the diamond paper and the other day in the shower the idea hit me that I should recreate the diamond pattern using some photos and papers from the kit.
I started by cutting a couple of diamond templates using my Silhouette Cameo and picked out 4 photos of my nephew from the last (almost) 3 years of his life, and a piece of white cardstock from my stash. I cut them to a diamond shape and because the foundation of my idea was from that 3x4 card I set it out and tried to figure out how I was going to include it.
I picked out some 3x4 cards and started cutting diamonds of different shapes, whatever fit onto the card and I'd figure out my plan later. A couple of the photos are cut off, but I planned to just put a pattern paper or embellishment over the missing space.
I laid everything out and started to organize my thoughts and create a plan. I wanted it to be balanced and for the photos to go in some sort of chronological order without going in a completely straight line across the page. I cut the 3x4 card imperfectly and just embraced that some of it was going to be cut off no matter what. I just HAD to include it.
The more I stared at it, the more I knew I wanted to include some hand stitching so I pulled out some white thread, my needle, piercing tool and rubber mat. At this point I started to feel like it wasn't balanced, so I rearranged things before deciding where I wanted the stitched diamonds to go.
I rearranged, cut some extra diamonds and used the larger diamond template to pierce holds for the stitching. I felt like I was continually cutting diamonds and adding and rearranging things, but after I'd stitched the diamonds I stopped rearranging.
I pulled out my embellishments and tried to narrow down a plan to finish it off. All of the embellishments pictured can be found in the Wild Whisper shop.
I decided on stars, number stickers from my stash and one small cork heart. I pulled some alpha stickers from my stash to create a title and called it done. But ended up mounting it on the branch paper because it needed a little something.
I also removed the diamonds with the lines but traced them to add my journaling straight to the background in 2 of the stitched diamonds. I added the dates to each of the photos, a heart from the alpha set and finally called it done.
