Hey Wild Whisper Fans! Katelyn here and I’m back sharing with you today a project using the No Place Like Home and Woodgrain Collections. For my project today, I've used a variety of the papers from both collections, along with the cards from the No Place Like Home Collection, to create my Chase Your Dreams Art Journal Page. You’ll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage as I walk you through how to recreate my Chase Your Dreams Art Journal at home.
You'll start by applying a coat of White Gesso to each page. From a book, tear out three pieces that are a variety of sizes. Choose two of the wood patterned papers. With the wood papers chosen, from the first piece, tear three pieces in a variety of sizes. From the second piece of paper, tear four pieces in a variety of sizes.
On the left hand side of the page, adhere one of the wood pieces and book pages together and then adhere it 1 1/4” from the top of the page. Adhere one wood piece 4 3/4” from the bottom of the page and adhere the other wood piece 3/4” from the bottom of the page.
On the right hand side of the page, adhere a wood piece 1” from the top of the page. Adhere one of the wood pieces and book pages together and then adhere it 5” from the bottom of the page. To finish off the right hand side of the page, adhere a wood piece 2 3/4” from the bottom of the page.
Adhere the last wood piece and book page together and then adhere it 2” from the bottom of the page.
Choose a couple of your favourite stencils. Start with one stencil and randomly place it on your art journal page and put Texture Paste through the stencil. Continue this until you feel you have enough of the image on your page. Take your second stencil and randomly place it in areas of your art journal that don't have any stenciled images, put texture paste through the stencil.
After the texture paste has dried, now comes the fun part of putting paint onto your art journal page. Using a baby wipe and Night paint, randomly put the paint on your art journal page. Before the paint has completely dried, rub off as much of the night coloured paint as possible to give it a faded look. If desired, don't rub as much paint off so that you have some areas that are darker. You will continue this step using Evergreen and Lemon paint.
Apply Mowed Lawn Distress Crayon to the green areas with stenciled images and rub the mowed lawn distress crayon into the areas. Apply Chipped Sapphire Distress Crayon to the blue areas with stenciled images and rub the Chipped Sapphire Distress Crayon into the areas. Apply Mustard Seed Distress Crayon to the yellow areas with stenciled images and rub the Mustard Seed Distress Crayon into the areas. Rub Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges of the wood papers and book pages as well as the outer edges of the art journal pages.
Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to a linen background stamp and randomly stamp onto your art journal page. Reapply the ink to the stamp as desired.
Using the Industrial Stencil from Tim Holtz, place the 2,3,4 etc. numbers at the top of the left hand side of the art journal page. Start by rubbing Picket Fence Distress Crayon through the stencil. Let it dry and then rub Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon through the stencil. Place the stencil down the left hand side of the page and rub Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon through the small numbers of the stencil. Place the 1,2,3 etc. numbers at the bottom right hand side of the art journal page. Rub Picket Fence Distress Crayon through the stencil. Once the Distress Crayon has dried, rub Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon through the stencil. To finish off the stenciling, place the stencil down the right hand side of the page and rub Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon through the small numbers of the stencil.
Get two plain tags. Trace one tag onto one of the patterned paper pieces from the No Place Like Home Paper Pack. Trace the second tag onto another patterned paper piece from the No Place Like Home Paper Pack. Adhere on tag 1 3/4” from the bottom of the page and 2” from the left of the page. Adhere the other tag 2 3/4” from the top of the page and 2” from the right of the page.
From the No Place Like Home card pack, fussy cut two houses and the label with tea cups on it. You'll also need the Chase Your Dream saying card, cut the words apart. Ink the edges of the houses, label and words. Adhere the tea cup label 1 1/2” from the top of the left hand side of the page. Foam square one of the houses to the tag on the right hand side of the page. Foam square the “Chase Your Dreams But Always Know The Road” part of the saying. Foam square the other house to the tag on the left hand side page. Foam square the “That Will Lead You Home Again – Tim McGraw” part of the saying.
To finish off the tags, rub Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges of each tag.
To finish off your art journal page, splatter Black Soot Distress Spray over the entire page.
