Nathalie's Canada Layout

Happy Canada Day to all of our fellow northerners! We are so thrilled to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday this year, and what better way to commemorate our country than with some patriotic scrapbooking! The Strong & Free collection is perfect for documenting these kinds of events and today Nathalie DeSousa is sharing a gorgeous patriotic layout and a bit of her family history.
We are officially on holidays here at Wild Whisper, but we will still be sharing a bunch of wonderful projects this week. From here we will let Nathalie take it away!

Hi there! Though I was born in Ecuador, I have called Canada my home  for over 25+ years. I am a proud Canadian, now, and with the country celebrating its 150 anniversary, I wanted to create a layout about the best thing Canada has given me - my kids!

For this layout, I wanted to stay true to the national colours of red and white, so I used a Silhouette cut file to create the large maple leaf on the left hand side of  one of the papers of the Strong and  Free collection. A bit of hand stitching with red embroidery thread adds texture and definition to the cut. The collection has this beautiful and vibrant red paper with some firework illustrations, and it was perfect to back the leaf.  A bit of foam adhesive was added so that there is dimension in the leaf.

A picture of my kids sitting in front of the iconic TORONTO sign (we live in Toronto) during the Pan AM games was then backed with one of the cards from the Strong and Free card pack, and placed to the side of the leaf.  To continue with the colour combination, a small cluster of ephemera was added to the bottom left corner of the picture, as well as to the top right corner of it.

To tie in the theme of this page, I pulled some of the wood veneers from the collection to add to the top cluster on the picture. The tag was then formed from one of the cards from the Strong and Free collection pack, and the small tab is part of the branding strip from the collection papers.

It is not that I wanted simplicity, but the CANADA wood veneer in the title just summarized this page for me. To add a bit of colour and complement the colour scheme, I  fussy cut the Glowing Heart piece from the collection card pack (the designs in the card pack are just so Canadian, you might want to order a second pack, just saying, eh!), and attached it to the title along with a small maple leaf wood veneer from this collection.

To complete the page, I wrote a few lines about the picture, as to where it was taken and so on inside of the bottom piece of the maple leaf, and called the layout finished!

I love the simplicity, and colour combination of this page. The dimension and textures in the leaf are just perfect to document my loves in our hometown. Wild Whisper's Strong & Free collection is gorgeous, but if you are a Canadian, it is also a must-have in your paper collection.

If you have any questions on how this came together, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you all soon!
