Hello, Jenn here! Happy Victoria Day to all my scrappy Canadians!!! Hope it's been a nice long weekend and that you are maybe enjoying a bbq, or bonfire with a frosty cold one :) How are you all doing? We are still doing well over here, enjoying the nice weather we're finally getting, and preparing for our province to slowly open up over the next few months.
I've been so excited to start working with the Sassy Since Birth collection because I have three pretty sassy kids. Last week my youngest told me that he is sassier than his sister, so I decided to create my first layout about him! He might actually be right. He's a pretty quiet kid but he is a pro at the sass. I started by choosing the bonus pattern from the 12x12 paper pack for my background. I added some gesso to the bottom left hand corner of the paper to tone down the pattern a little so that I could do a little mixed media on the background. While the gesso dried I chose some journal cards from the card pack and some ephemera from the ephemera pack to layer behind my photo and embellish the layout.
Once the gesso was dry, I used a straw to blow watercolours in a circular pattern around the gesso'd area of the background to match the paint splatter patterns in the paper, cards, and ephemera of the collection. I simply dropped some paint in the center of the gesso, and then blew it outwards to get a fun splattered pattern. I let each colour dry a little bit before going on to the next. While that dried I created my photo cluster by layering the cards I chose behind my little 2x3 photo.
When the watercolours were dry, I added my photo cluster to the center of my splatter pattern so that the colours look like they are radiating out from the photo. I added the three splatter ephemera pieces around my cluster, and some little word ephemera along the side of the photo. I used foam squares behind the little Sassy Since Birth ephemera piece to pop it up a little bit. I created a second cluster in the top right corner with another card to add my journalling. I used some of the little off cuts from my photo cluster to layer behind my journalling card.
I finished my layout with a scattering of sequins from the Child at Heart collection. I love how fun and playful this layout turned out! This is exactly the type of sassy that my youngest is.
