Hello, Jenn here with another layout to share with you :) This month I am participating in a fun series called Christy's 30 Days of Sketches where there is a new sketch to use all month long. I decided to play along with today's sketch for my Wild Whisper layout. The design of the sketch instantly made me think of Pam Bray's beautiful collections with all their mixed media and the paper I chose for my background, from her Carefree collection seemed like the perfect Easter layout background!!!
I used watercolours to create the mixed media in the background of the layout. I love using watercolours on Wild Whisper paper because the glossy coating of the paper leaves a lot of time for the colours to blend and mix and once they are dry they change the texture of the paper. I used a big brush and smooshed some bright pink around the top left corner of page, letting some colour run down the page a bit. I also added some yellow and green, to match the Easter eggs in my pictures. If you wanted, you could add some Gesso to the background paper first, since it already has a mixed media look to it, so that these colours stand out a little more, but I wanted my colours to almost blend with the colours in the paper, just adding a little extra detail around the area where my photos would be.
While my background dried, I used my watercolours to paint some wood veneer Easter eggs and bunny tracks and set them aside to dry as well. I used Pam Bray's Watercolor collection to create layers behind my little photos, alternating her beautiful mixed media pages with white cardstock so that the colours in her papers would really stand out. I used three little photos instead of the two that you see in the sketch, so I added layers behind all three, and used some foam behind the largest one to add a little extra dimension to that one.
I created my photo cluster over top of the dried mixed media, and then arranged the Easter eggs on the left hand side of the main photo, just like the stars in the sketch. I cut my background paper down by about half an inch and then backed it with some white cardstock to match the layers behind my photos. I used my black Sharpie pen to draw some sketchy lines around the edges of both papers, instead of journalling around the edge, like in the sketch. I bent and distressed the edge of Pam's paper all around the layout and added my little bunny feet in a few spots around the edge. Finally I added my title "Egg Hunt" and some enamel dots to finish the layout.
The colours in these two collections are just so pretty and pair perfectly with Easter and Spring layouts. This was so much fun to make :) If you want to see more of how this layout came together, please head over to my Youtube channel!
