Hello, Jenn here! I have a fun new layout to share with you using the Home is Where the Wifi Is collection from Jenn Aguilar. As a dance Mom, anytime I hear the words 'on point' I automatcally think 'en pointe'. I thought the 'on point' references in Jenn's collection would make a fun and unique ballet layout using non-conventional colours and motifs for a dance. I really love how everything came together to show my daughter getting some new Pointe shoes!!!
I started by fussy cutting all of the elements I wanted to use from the papers in the collection. I chose all of the elements that say 'on point', the tacks, and also the frames and arranged them all on white cardstock.
To add some interest to the cardstock I decided to create a frame around the outside using Espresso Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Canadian Maple embossing powder from Emerald Creek. The ink stays wet long enough to hold the embossing powder down so you can melt it. I wanted to give the impression of a wooden frame around the outside, as if the layout was a cork board.
For more interest in the background I used some yellow watercolours to add a smoosh of colour behind the larger framed pictures. This helps the frames to stand out from the background and make those photos the focal point of the layout. I also used some foam behind the tacks so they pop up from the background giving them dimension and realism. I thought it would be fun to add my journalling on some real Post-It notes so I cut one down to size and added it to the top frame on the left side. In the bottom left-hand frame I added my title. I used some Simple Stories alphas to change the 'o' in 'on' to an 'e' to make it 'en' and added an 'e' to the end of 'point' to make it 'pointe'. I did the same for one of the little circles I fussy cut. I finished the whole layout with some SpiegelMom Scraps sequins and a splatter of Heidi Swapp Colour Shine in Gold.
I really love making layouts that are unconventional. It's really fun to take a look at a collection find a different way of using it. This works especially well if you have years and years of similar pictures and want to find different ways of documenting them. I really love how this turned out :) To see how I pulled it all together please visit my Youtube Channel for the process video.
