Hello all! Today we are pleased to introduce Nathalie DeSousa, a fellow Canadian originally from Ecuador! She has an impressive crafty resume and we are so lucky to have her on our talent-packed design team. Nathalie created this layout using the Rooted Love collection. She was inspired by the bird paper and she even created a cut file with our bird icon! These cut-files were generously shared with us by Nathalie, so you can find them for FREE in our shop! Nathalie has also created a wonderful process video for this layout, which you can find below.
From here we will let Nathalie take it away!
I wanted a soft background that matched the sky on the picture (of my daughter and I ziplining through the Mountains down in my native Ecuador, above one of their biggest waterfalls). A little bit of watercolour (prima palettes) was enough to add just a bit of color. To bring out the background, the sheet was trimmed by about 1/4 inch and the page was stitched to the diamond paper from the collection that matched the colours of the birds.
Since there are clouds in the picture, I used a Silhouette cut file to cut the images. A bit of hand stitching brings out the shape on the light background.
The cards are great to back the picture, and to fussy cut images for the layout.
The bird cut outs were backed with papers from the collection, as well as some of the cards from the collection. I picked papers that would contrast against the background and represented the whole collection.
I stitched the cut out images along the center line, so that I could fold up the wings of the birds and make it look as if they were flying!
The wood veneer was embossed using the charred gold powder in combination with some other gold powder. The stamped feathers just complete the idea of the layout.
