Today we welcome our February guest designer, Linda Pekrul, who is another fellow Albertan living in Strathmore. She is sharing her stunning mixed media layout using our latest collection, Rooted Love! Linda has a detailed explanation of how she achieved some of the gorgeous details, so be sure to also check out her blog post here. We love how this project really demonstrates that our papers and embellishments can be combined with all kinds of mediums to create wonderful texture and interest. Linda has a couple of valuable tips for those who may be new to mixed media-
"Doing a mixed media layout can seem intimidating, but just have fun with it. If you don't like something, you can always paint over it with white gesso and start again! Making yourself sample cards of the materials you are thinking of using, really helps to prevent errors in colour choice."
To create the initial background, Linda trimmed down the bird/woodgrain paper in the Rooted Love collection and covered it with a layer of clear gesso. She then used a tree stencil and a heart stencil with some inks to add more texture. We keep telling people that our papers take mixed media products very well and Linda really demonstrates this! You can see that there is no warping in her project.
The beautiful cluster above was created using wood veneers from the Focus on You collection, cork heart confetti, Verdigris Sparkle embossing powder, a fussy cut 3x4 card, and several Gelatos and paints. We love how Linda used the wood veneer feathers to create the look of a dream catcher.
These stunning flowers were die cut from one of the 4x6 cards. Linda first misted it with this aqua blue colour, cut the flowers and leaves, and added a layer of Fractured Ice embossing powder.
