Our Fave: Scrapbooking Layout with Khristina

Hi Friends!

Throughout the month of July, several creative friends and I are taking on an Off the Board challenge to use our Pinterest pins that we have saved and want to use as layout inspiration. I love a challenge like this because it pushes me outside my creative box a bit and I always love the results. For today, I grabbed a pin of a layout that I really liked (I wish I had the creator's name but it wasn't on the post) and then grabbed some leftovers from my Wild Whisper Adventure and Road Trip collections.

I love a good grid layout and it is always a fun starting point for a layout. For this particular layout, I knew that I wanted to use darker papers so I paired them up with white cardstock and a brighter photo in order to create balance and help everything pop while not competing with each other. Here is the original layout (source unknown) that I chose from my Pinterest boards....

I started out by using my electric cutting machine to cut some leaves that I thought would match the theme I wanted out of one of the Adventure patterned papers. I am often hesitant to make cut files out of patterned paper for fear of ruining the paper but I really really love the look that they add to a page!

Then, I created my grid starting with a 6x6 block of the brighter green patterned paper and then cutting 2x2 boxes from the other patterns I wanted to use. Some of them came from the pocket cards pack and some came from the 12x12 paper pack.

I also decided to flip the original layout sideways and then adding some manufacturer strips along the edges to create more definition and add a a fun detail.

The clusters that I created started with a couple of die cuts (Road Trip Ephemera pack) as well as a couple of Kraft tags. I then added a little loop of jute and an acrylic dinosaur in the middle. I recreated this same element on the top left cluster with a different style of little dinosaur.

I also nestled my title into that top cluster and added a few enamel dots in a bright pop of orange to both clusters. I love that there were a couple of die cuts in the Road Trip ephemera pack that had that same pop of color because they worked perfectly to break up the background and bring some little details in a bright contrast. I will go back and add some journaling on the bottom white space area talking about how the Jurassic Park ride is our absolute favorite every time we visit Universal Studios in California.

I hope that you loved seeing how I was inspired by a Pinterest post of a gorgeous layout and how I adjusted it to make it my own. I just love all of the little details and how well these two collections work together and I really really love those leaves cut from patterned paper!
