Xyron Feature Week - Marley Layout by Julia

Julia Chupik is here with us today to share a beautiful mixed media layout tutorial with us. We especially love how she created her own dimensional letter stickers using the Xyron sticker maker. Julia will take it from here!

Hello! I have been looking forward to the release of the Fur Babies Mini Collection for a long time. Over the next 4 weeks I will be sharing projects featuring fur babies and one not so furry fur-baby.

Today's project is a 12x12 layout featuring a photo of Marley, the fur-baby of my very good friend, Heather. I am also using the Sticker Maker from Xyron. It made laying my title really fast & easy.

Step 1: To create my background I chose 3 Distress Oxide Ink - Shaded Lilac, Abandoned Coral & Seedless Preserves. I applied some of Seedless Preserves & Shaded Lilac to my splat mat.
Step 2: I spritzed the ink with my Distress Sprayer to stat the oxidization.
Step 3: I took my 12x12 sheet of glossy paper and laid in over the ink. I spritzed my paper with a bit of water and then dried it with my heat tool. I laid the paper down a couple more times into the ink always drying it in between layers.
Step 4: I took the 3rd colour of Distress Oxide - Abandoned Coral and repeated steps 2 & 3. To finish off this layer I added some splatters with black acrylic paint.
Step 5: I took my blending tool and Distress Micro Glaze and applied the glaze over the oxide inks. This removes the cloudy oxidization film and brightens of the colours of the ink.
Step 6: Before adhering my paper to the background I made sure to take a soft cloth and buff off the Distress Glaze. I took several sheets of the pattern papers from the Fur Babies collection and cut them into triangle shapes. I inked the edges with black ink then adhered them to my background.
Next I took the Tim Holtz Layering Stencil - Diamonds and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide and blended the stencil shape overlapping the pattern paper and background. This really helped ground the paper to the background.
Step 7: To create my title I started by using the Typo Upper Bigz Die from Sizzix and cutting out the "Marley" in purple cardstock. I added a layer of clear embossing powder to the letters before moving on. I wanted to add some dimension so I also die cut the same letter in black craft foam.
Step 8: The Xyron Sticker maker made it super easy and quick to layer my letters. I put all my letters through the machine then layered the purple letters over the black letters. The Xyron Sticker adhesive stuck really well to the glossy paper too!
Step 9: I adhered the title to the background. The little bit of dimension from the craft foam made a huge difference.
Step 10: I saw the quote "Love is a four-legged word" on one of the pattern papers from the collection and it just seemed perfect to use for this page.
I used the 'love' stamp from the Rooted Love Stamp Set, stamped it with emboss-it ink and heat embossed it with extra fine black embossing powder. The rest of the quote is stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx Ink and a tiny alpha stamp set.
Step 11: My final step was to add some wood veneer hearts that I painted with Festive Berries Distress Paint.
Thanks so much for joining me this week! watch this page all month long for even more Fur Babies inspiration from the Wild Whisper Design Team.
